Brazzaville, the American band that brings genres such as indie pop, bossa nova and chamber pop, will be at the #studio on May 5th as a part of Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival!

Founded by David Brown, who had previously worked with Beck as a saxophonist in the albums Odelay (1996) and Midnite Vultures (1999), Brazzaville released its self-titled debut album on Brown's own South China Sea label in 1999, two years after it was formed. The album received broad acclaim with critics comparing it to the sound of Tom Waits and Morphine. The follow-up album Somnambulista was released in 2001 and featured some new members of the band such as Joel Virgel Vierset (percussion), Joe Zimmerman (bass), Mick Bolger (trumpet/accordion).

Having travelled throughout the globe, Brown acquired various musical influences from the Far East, Brazil (bossa nova and Tropicalia), Africa and France (cabaret pop); deriving the band's name from the capital of the Congo. After the release of the third album Rouge on Pockmarked Cheeks in 2002, Brown moved to Barcelona and started an alternative European line-up of Brazzaville which included Paco Jordi (guitar), Richie Alvarez (keyboard), Brady Arthur Lynch (bass) and Ivan Knight (drums).

Brazzaville released a total of 12 albums, the most recent being The Oceans of Ganymede in 2016, working with Zakat and Doublemoon Records and Vendlus Records along with South China Sea.

On May 5th, #studio will host Brazzaville, the American band that has derived a combination of various genres from various geographies, as a part of Zorlu PSM Jazz Festival
